PHOTOG began 2020 with an active event calendar containing Education sessions at the Hardesty and the Martin libraries, Breakfast at Tally’s, Coffee at the Gathering Place Lodge and some great group photo events. Then everything changed in March as the impact of COVID-19 made itself felt. Libraries and other public venues shut down and most of us sheltered at home until the first wave seemed to pass. Planning for a PHOTOG banquet and our annual Help Portrait event were put on hold and ultimately canceled for 2020.
Despite COVID-19 we were able to continue sharing our passion for photography with a combination of virtual events and outdoor PHOTOG events providing an opportunity to see each other while maintaining social distancing. Also, our private Facebook group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/tulsaphotog, continues to provide a platform for sharing our photography with each other and interact.
I’d like to remind you to renew your PHOTOG membership for 2021 as we look forward to getting back together again when the pandemic abates. We have a great start with 103 renewals from our 210 active members as of midafternoon December 31, 2020!
It has been an honor to serve on the PHOTOG Board for the past five years. As I leave as Executive Director, I want to thank all of the folk who volunteer their time, talent and effort serving as Board Members, Event Coordinators and the committees that plan and run major events.
Those big events, such as Help Portrait, Theme of the Month, Creative Concepts, Moments in Time Gallery Show and our Banquets are icing on the cake when added to our monthly Education sessions and the variety of regular photo events we find on our Event Calendar. This year the Assignment Tulsa committee, working with the concept proposed by the Gilcrease Museum, provided a wonderful opportunity for our members to put their best work forward competing for an opportunity to have their work displayed at the Gilcrease in 2021. Monthly themes from July through November provided the challenge to continue shooting and submit our best work.
Happy New Year everyone, to you and your family!
